Sprains and Strains Sprains and strains occur when a muscle tendon or ligament is stressed, usually from overstretching or repetitive use. Joints and muscles forced to perform movements that are not prepared or designed to may create stress to the body, resulting in a sprain or strain.
With a sprain, the thick bands of tissue, or ligaments, that anchor to the bone on each side of a joint are stretched or torn. A strain involves muscle tendons, which allow a joint to go through a range of motion, and if overstretched can pull and tear.
With a sprain or strain, a person may experience swelling, discomfort, and lack of mobility. To help alleviate pain and inflammation, browse our large selection of splints, slings, braces, pain gels, cold and heat wraps, and more!
