Jumper's knee, or patellar tendonopathy, occurs when the patellar tendon receives micro-tears and collagen degeneration as a result from excessive strain on the knee joint. This condition is common in athletes who engage in sports that involve changes in direction and jumping movements.
Symptoms of jumper's knee may include pain at the front and bottom of the patella (kneecap) upon compression, aching and stiffness, pain when contracting the quadriceps, and enlargement in the tendon region.
